A rundown of vehicles to see at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show

-

Despite a storm brewing, the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show pushes through its opening day with exciting launches, reveals, activities, and much more. Now in full swing, the 2024 PIMS will be held from October 24 to October 27 at the World Trade Center. Here’s a lineup of vehicles you can expect to see on the show floor.

Toyota

Toyota Motor Philippines shows off the Tamaraw Hybrid in different shapes and forms! You can grab a cup of joe and some treats at the Tamaraw Cafe or check out the full-fitted RV setup by Carryboy.

Apart from the Tamaraw Hilux, Toyota also shows the quirky Kayoibako concept, which was first seen at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023. The Kayoibako concept is a modular battery electric vehicle designed to serve different needs. It can, for example, be set up as a cargo carrier for transporting goods, a mobile workspace, a clinic, disaster relief vehicles, or even a moving living room.

Toyota also shows off the incredibly sleek bZ4X and if you head outside, you can also take a peek at the all-new Camry! According to the company, they also brought in the hydrogen concept car but were unfortunately unable to show it off due to the bad weather.

Nissan

Nissan’s impressive display featured four highly anticipated vehicles — the X-Trail e-power, Z NISMO, Nissan Magnite, and the recently launched Nissan Patrol.

In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Nissan intros the all-new, track-ready Nissan Z NISMO. It sports those signature red accents all around coupled with an aggressive but still elegant exterior. It boasts an upgraded twin-turbo V6 engine, a sporty cabin featuring red Recaro seats compete with NISMO stitching, a specially designed steering wheel, bigger disc brakes and a whole lot more.

The Nissan Z Nismo is set to retail at PhP 4.668M and is expected to be available in 2025.

Making a comeback is the Nissan X-Trail refreshed as an e-power vehicle like the Kicks. Just a preview for now, the 2025 Nissan X-Trail e-power features a 150kW motor outing 203PS and 320Nm of torque. It’s, of course, equipped with the e-Pedal that aids in regenerative braking. Inside you’ll see a 12.3-inch touch display with modern connectivity options, voice control, and more.

Also at Nissan’s booth is the Magnite — a subcompact crossover that’s even smaller than the Kicks. With its current specs and size, it’s set to compete with models like the Toyota Raize and Kia Sonet.

Last in Nissan’s lineup is the all-new Nissan Patrol. Just a preview for now, Nissan has yet to confirm the local launch of the bigger, sleeker Patrol. Nissan has also made it its most elusive model during the show as it was kept behind a glass enclosure and was covered for most of the first day of PIMS.

Ford

Ford finally unveils the much-clamored-for gasoline variant of the Ford Ranger Raptor. Packing a 3.0L V6 twin-turbo EcoBoost engine, the latest Ford Ranger Raptor delivers 397PS and 583Nm of torque, paired with a performance-tuned 10-speed automatic transmission and an anti-lag system optimized for off-road Baja mode.

The engine’s graphite-iron cylinder block enhances strength and durability, while the electronically controlled exhaust system offers four modes — Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Baja — providing a customizable driving experience. The new Raptor also introduces an advanced permanent four-wheel drive system with front and rear locking differentials.

Complementing the performance, the Ranger Raptor boasts a suspension system featuring FOX 2.5-inch Live Valve dampers, filled with friction-reducing Teflon-infused oil.

This real-time adaptive suspension, developed by Ford Performance, works with seven selectable driving modes, including Rock Crawl, Sand, and Baja, adjusting everything from throttle response to instrument display settings.

On the outside, we see Matrix LED headlights, functional aero elements, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. Inside, a fully digital cabin with SYNC 4A connectivity, ambient lighting, and Bang & Olufsen audio.

Apart from the new Ranger Raptor, Ford also has te Territory and other models on display on the show floor.

Kia

Not really a surprise as Kia Philippines has been teasing the 2024 World Car of the Year but the EV9 finally hits Philippine shores. Specifically, it’s the GT-Line variant that’ll be available here.

Boxy but still futuristic, the flagship EV9 incorporates key elements like a digital tiger face grille, Star Map LED headlights, auto-flush door handles, and 21-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the EV9 boasts a spacious 2+2+2 seating configuration with a 3,100 mm wheelbase, premium leather upholstery, and dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.

It offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, tri-zone automatic climate control, and advanced features like a Digital Center Mirror and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function for external power needs.

Under the hood, the EV9 is powered by dual electric motors, delivering 384 PS and 700 Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds.

Equipped with a 99.8 kWh battery, the SUV offers up to 505 km of range on a single charge, with fast-charging options available — reaching 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. It comes with Normal, Sport, and Eco driving modes, along with all-wheel drive for versatility on all terrains. Safety features are robust, including Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2.0, and a 360-degree camera.

Kia Philippines launches the Kia V9 with a PhP 5,888M price tag.

Honda

Front and center, Honda welcomes you to the show with an overwhelming display. One of its main attractions is the 2025 Honda Civic including its hybrid RS variant. Officially launched during the first day of PIMS, the local-spec adopts a new design for the grille and bumper, darker tinted tail lights. The RS variant also gets a new wheel design.

The new Civic gets tech upgrades as well such as parking sensors, USB Type-C ports, a 9-inch audio display unit for all variants, and even has Google services built-in. Users can now interact and control their car with voice commands for navigation, and car operations, and install a wide variety of third-party apps. This hands-free way of interacting with the New Civic contributes to Honda’s global safety goal of having a collision-free society, wherein no road accidents will involve any Honda vehicle.

In the Philippines, the new Honda Civic is available in three variants — 1.5V Turbo CVT, 1.5 RS Turbo CVT, and the 2.0 RS e:HEV.

Another exciting vehicle to check out at Honda’s booth is the limited-edition Civic Type R Group A. Priced at PhP 4.6M, Honda will only be offering 5 units locally and all of them have already been claimed.

First introduced at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the Group A package elevates the Civic Type R FL5 with aerodynamic upgrades, including a front under spoiler, bumper garnishes, side garnishes, rear under spoiler, and a larger rear wing, resulting in a 25% boost in downforce for better high-speed stability.

Further enhancing its performance, the Mugen Civic Type R Group A is equipped with Mugen-developed dampers for improved road handling and exclusive 19-inch Mugen FR10 aluminum wheels by BBS, which are 10kg lighter than the stock set. The exterior also features Mugen racing lugnuts and lock nuts for added flair. A center-mounted Mugen exhaust refines the VTEC Turbo engine’s sound, though power figures remain undisclosed.

Jetour

Jetour puts the X50 and the T2 Terminator in the spotlight.

Yet another preview, the X50 slots just below the Dashing in terms of size and features a blacked-out and aggressive-looking grille, L-shaped accents all around, and 18-inch allow wheels. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine offering 156 PS and 230Nm of torque. Inside it offers a dual 10-inch display — one for the instrument panel and the other the infotainment. The Jetour X50 is usurprisingly Apple Carplay and Android Auto-ready as well.

Jetour says the X50 may arrive by next month and has already released pricing with the most affordable variant (Journey) settling at PhP 888,000. It also offers the X50 Travel at PhP 988,000 and the top-of-the-line X50 Sport at PhP 1,088.000.

Alongside the X50 is the more massive and aptly named T2 Terminator. The T2 is already available in the Philippines but the Terminator variant offers a more rugged and aggressive look featuring the Terminator-exclusive grille, roof-mounted lights, side ladders, and beefy alloy wheels. It’s offered in two kits– Executive and Outdoor.

MG

MG excitedly launches the 2025 MG HS in the Philippines!

As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, the new MG HS is offered as a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It’s carrying a 1.5L four-cylinder engine paired with a 207hp electric motor. The exterior is sleek and sporty with a prominent grille, and slim headlights, and is slightly larger than the previous release. Inside it boasts dual 12.1-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.

Alongside the MG HS, the company also has on display its electric sports car — the Cyberster — as well as its most recent releases like the tech-filled MG One.

Mazda

Mazda shows up at this year’s PIMS with a minimalist yet very impressive booth complete with a real race car hanging on the wall. But the real stars of the booth are the Mazda MX-30 R-EV and the Autoexe editions of the Mazda 3 and CX-60.

One of the more interesting things about the MX-30 R-EV is the fact that it uses Mazda’s iconic rotary engine as a range extender. Its electric motor offers 170 PS and 260Nm of torque that’s directly delivered to the axles. The rotary engine extends the range of the vehicle by staying at a constant speed to help recharge the 17.8kWh battery.

Given it is equipped with a range extender, the Mazda MX-30 R-EV claims a 600km range on a single tank.

On a higher platform stands the Mazda 3 and CX-60 decked out in AutoExe parts and accessories. Most prominent is the bolder front grille for the Mazda 3 alongside red accent lug nuts that give it a more unique and detailed look. The Mazda 3 AutoExe also boasts carbon door mirror covers, a front strut tower bar, and a rear floor crossbar for increased rigidity. Engine responsiveness is also better thanks to the fastback sports muffler.

For the CX-60, it’s fitted with a street sports suspension kit, low down spring, front and rear sports stabilizer bars, and rear bumper and front grille garnishes as well.

And like the previously released MX-5 AutoExe Edition, these will also be limited edition as well.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor Philippines didn’t launch anything new and instead put its current lineup on display. The company showcased the recently launched Santa Fe Hybrid Tucson Hybrid. Beyond hybrid offerings, Hyundai also had the Stargazer X alongside the Staria.

Performance enthusiasts were treated to the Elantra N. Adding to the excitement, visitors could enjoy the N Racer Simulator*, providing a thrilling virtual racing experience.

BMW

BMW introduced the i5 M60 Touring which is powered by dual electric motors delivering 601 PS and 795 Nm of torque.

Speedy as it is sleek, the i5 M60 Touring can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. It houses an 81.2 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 506 km on a full charge.

The sleek exterior is accentuated by a panoramic glass roof, while the interior pampers passengers with Merino leather upholstery and practical features like 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats for added versatility.  Inside, the cabin is filled with advanced tech including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch infotainment. It runs on BMW’s proprietary OS that brings convenience features like voice commands for the vehicle.

The BMW i5 Touring M60 is available for PhP 7.990M.

Changan Auto

Changan Auto introduced the Hunter RE-EV at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show, marking it as the world’s first range-extended electric pickup.

The Hunter RE-EV pairs a 2.0L turbocharged engine with a 31.18 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, achieving a combined range of up to 1,031 kilometers. Two powertrain options are bing offered: a dual-motor setup producing 268 PS and 470 Nm of torque, or a single-motor version offering 174 PS and 320 Nm of torque.

The Hunter RE-EV includes a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system.

Changan also introduced the limited-edition Uni-T Midnight Edition, a compact SUV designed with an emphasis on style and modern technology. This sleek version features a gloss black front lip, a blacked-out grille accent, side skirts with carbon detailing, black alloy wheels, and a shark fin spoiler finished in carbon. Only ten units will be available.

Chery showcased two standout SUVs at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show, starting with the Tiggo 2 Pro, a subcompact crossover tailored for first-time car buyers and urban drivers. With a refreshed design and updated tech, the Tiggo 2 Pro offers a stylish yet affordable solution for city commutes, making it an ideal entry-level vehicle.

Chery also introduced the Tiggo 5 Pro, a compact SUV that emphasizes comfort and advanced features. With a spacious interior and family-friendly amenities, the Tiggo 5 Pro provides a smooth and enjoyable driving experience, appealing to both families and adventure seekers looking for practicality and performance in one package.

Suzuki

The Rhino variant of the Jimny makes an appearance at Suzuki’s booth. This special-edition model boasts improved off-road performance and also shows off a gunmetal front grille, Rhino-themed decals, mud flaps, and a Rhino badge on the rear.

But the real star of the booth was the Suzuki eVX Concept. Designed for both style and capability, the eVX showcases a bold silhouette with an upright stance, a horizontal hood, long wheelbase, large wheels, and elevated ground clearance — features that enhance its off-road potential.

Built on a dedicated EV platform, the eVX aims to deliver a range of up to 550 kilometers and is set to hit the market by 2025.
