BMW has officially brought its first plug-in hybrid to the Philippine market with the introduction of the X5 xDrive50e.

At the heart of the X5 xDrive50e lies its tech-forward interior with the BMW Widescreen Display as its centerpiece. Combining a 12.3-inch driver display with a 14.9-inch central, the X5 runs on BMW’s latest iDrive Operating System 8.5, offering a highly intuitive interface and a suite of digital services.

The BMW Live Cockpit Plus comes standard, including the cloud-based navigation system, BMW Maps. Meanwhile, drivers and passengers can stay connected with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and ConnectedDrive Services.

Additional tech highlights include the Parking Assistant Professional, which features a reverse assistant and drive recorder, as well as the Driving Assistant Professional suite which offers adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

The exterior design of the X5 xDrive50e exudes sophistication with its athletic yet refined styling.

BMW’s signature kidney grille, featuring Iconic Glow cascade lighting, stands out with its dramatic effect, especially at night. The grille is complemented by vertical air curtains and a lower air intake with Pearl-effect Chrome trim and triangular accents that lend a cutting-edge aesthetic. Slimmer Adaptive LED headlights complete the striking front fascia.

The M Sport package further elevates its sporty appeal with gloss-black trims, 21-inch alloy wheels, and an aerodynamic front bumper. Buyers can choose from six striking color options: M Carbon Black Metallic, M Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Manhattan Metallic, Skyscraper Grey Metallic, Alpine White, and Mineral White Metallic.

Inside, the X5 xDrive50e offers a luxurious and versatile cabin that prioritizes comfort and convenience. The seats are upholstered in Sensafin Décor Stitching material, available in elegant tones such as Cognac, Coffee, and Silverstone. The quad-zone climate control ensures personalized comfort for all passengers, while roller sun blinds provide additional privacy.

Other interior highlights include a wireless charging pad and the option for a Harman Kardon sound system. The Travel & Comfort System adds practical touches, like USB-C ports and mounting options for rear-seat entertainment.

Powering the X5 xDrive50e is a cutting-edge plug-in hybrid system that combines a latest-generation six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with a new electric motor. Together, they produce an impressive 489 hp and 700 Nm of torque. This powertrain is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds.

The vehicle’s all-electric range reaches up to 118 km, making it ideal for everyday city driving, with a top speed of 140 km/h in EV mode. Additionally, BMW promises significant fuel efficiency of over 100 km/L under optimal conditions, providing not only environmental benefits but also cost savings.

Initially launched globally in February 2023, its arrival in the Philippines is bolstered by recent government initiatives, such as Executive Order No. 12 and the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which aim to promote hybrid and electric vehicles by providing tax incentives and support for sustainable mobility.

The X5 xDrive50e’s introduction in the Philippines is timely, as more buyers explore sustainable alternatives in the luxury vehicle market. The model is priced at PhP 6.99 million and is now available through BMW dealerships nationwide.
