ZKW and LG are setting the stage for a tech showcase at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. In the spotlight is the LG Concept Car.
Designed to offer a a mobile cinema experience, the concept car is equipped with ZKW’s high-resolution microZ-LED headlights, this futuristic ride turns your drive into a “drive-in theater.”
The clever projector function in the headlights creates a cinematic 100-inch image, offering entertainment galore, thanks to OTT communication via the Internet, think Netflix on wheels. While this takes us on a cinematic journey, there’s also a practical side – ZKW and LG are aiming to enhance road safety by elevating the interaction between vehicles.
At the CES Private Area ZKW also showed off its latest gems – an illuminated multi-colored front grille, dubbed “Panel,” and an illuminated bumper, co-developed with REHAU Automotive.
These aren’t just lighting components; they’re part of a grand plan to redesign electric vehicles’ fronts, turning them into smart design objects with integrated lighting, logos, sensors, and even heating functions. It’s all about bringing intelligence to vehicle fronts, enhancing both design and safety.
Zooming in on the LG Concept Car’s headlights, these digital marvels are based on HD LED modules with over 1.3 million pixels. And they don’t just light up the road; they also adapt dynamically to the traffic situation, ensuring a clear view while precisely blocking out distractions from other road users. The daytime running lights can also swivel up and down, revealing the main light modules in a unique design twist. It’s a combination of elegance and practicality – saving space while standing out.
A collaboration with OSRAM and ZKW introduces innovative rear light modules featuring transparent LEDs laminated onto a clear substrate. The result? An animated surface displaying tail lights, indicators, brake lights, and even illuminated logos. And for fans of the GM Chevy Silverado, CES will showcase its new headlamp with a captivating illuminated animation of the charge indicator.
Shifting gears a bit, ZKW has its sustainability game on point. By 2025, they’re aiming for carbon-neutral global production, followed by carbon-neutral products by 2038. At CES, they’re not just talking the talk; they’re walking the walk by showcasing sustainable lighting solutions. The SusMat4CarLight project is a deep dive into researching recyclable materials for future lighting systems, including eco-friendly polymers. With this, the company hopes to attain its goal of a 60 percent reduction in CO2 emissions from production and products – a commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
