Dyson CleanTrace utilizes AR to help you clean more efficiently

-

Augmented Reality or AR has been around for a while now but it is only fairly recently that we’re getting practical applications for it. Case and point are AR glasses. Again, not new, but with the Apple Vision Pro putting the AR tech in the spotlight, others are sure to follow suit. Just like Dyson.

Let me say this now as you may be thinking it, Dyson is not creating its own AR glasses. Instead, the company has developed Dyson CleanTrace AR — a new feature that utilizes a device’s LiDAR tech to map a room and overlay cleaning paths. That being said, it’s important to note that you can only use this feature on phones with LiDar (i.e., iPhones).

Additionally, CleanTrace is currently only available to the Dyson Gen5Detect vacuum but it isn’t impossible that other devices get this feature in a future update.

So what is Dyson CleanTrace exactly?

If you haven’t an idea about AR or Augmented Reality, it’s spatial technology that allows graphics or information to be projected onto the real world. This is normally seen through a device like a phone or AR glasses. CleanTrace takes this technology and rethinks it for cleaning.

Once you’ve mapped a room with your device, Dyson CleanTrace will project purple pathways that you can follow to ensure you cover every nook and cranny. Dyson believes this systematic approach, which is based on the movement of robot vacuums, cleaning will be more efficient. And it sounds fun, too.

There’s even an official Dyson phone clamp releasing in June that attaches your phone to the wand of the Dyson Gen5Detect so you can follow along the AR paths hands-free.

The Dyson CleanTrace AR feature will be available starting June 2024 onwards. Philippine availability has yet to be announced.
