Epson’s eco-friendly fabric printers bring creative visions to life

-

At the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week 2023-24, designer Yuima Nakazato stunned audiences with his MAGMA — A collection of bold designs inspired by Kenya’s waste mountains. It featured solid and intricate pieces brought to life with the help of Epson’s digital fabric and textile printers.

Nakazato’s partnership with Epson allowed him to utilize the company’s more eco-friendly approach to the waste and resource-heavy traditional printing methods.

Traditional silk screen printing, long used in the fashion industry, is notorious for its environmental impact. It consumes large amounts of water, energy, and chemicals, and every new design or color requires a new screen, adding to the waste.

In Nakazato’s MAGMA collection, Epson’s digital printers reduced water use by up to 96%, cutting out post-printing processes like steaming and washing.

Epson’s SureColor F6430 is one of the leading digital fabric printers making this change possible. Designed for small to mid-sized textile production, it offers high-quality printing at faster speeds.

Epson’s dedication to eco-friendly textile production is central to its “Engineered For Good” campaign, embedding sustainability into all its products. According to Epson Philippines President Masako Kusama, their printing solutions not only deliver top-tier quality but also support the fashion industry’s shift away from overconsumption.

With the Epson SureColor F6430, designers benefit from faster production times, as its dye-sublimation technology eliminates the need for multiple screens and manual alignment, allowing for quicker, high-quality output compared to traditional silkscreen methods.

The Epson SureColor F6430 is also designed to avoid ink bleeding and uneven color distribution, even with more complex patterns, gradients, and photographic images.

Specific features of the Epson SureColor F6430 include:

  • 44-inch digital dye sublimation textile printer
  • PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead with 1.33-inch printhead width and nozzle verification technology
  • New Integrated Ink Pack System with 45% increase in ink capacity
  • Auto Take-up Reel ensures stable and continuous media take-up
