Fiio DM13 is a Discman for the modern age

-

If you lived through the height of popularity for CDs, then it’s probably certain that you’ve kept a few from your collection. With all things retro making a comeback, there’s now a more 2024 way to listen to compact discs.

Fiio, who’s brought us a modern re-imagining of a Walkman as well, now has the DM13 portable CD player

There’s nothing short of retro with the DM13 with its boxy design and cute colors (only Silver will be available at launch).

A definite homage to the players from the 90s and 2000s, the DM13 is sleek, compact, and retains the familiar look and feel of vintage CD players. While the DM13 keeps the charm of a traditional Discman, it incorporates several modern features that enhance its functionality:

  • Bluetooth Support: The DM13 supports a range of Bluetooth codecs, including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, and SBC. This means you can wirelessly connect the DM13 to your headphones or speakers, enjoying high-quality audio without the hassle of wires.
  • Wired Connectivity: For purists who prefer a wired connection, the DM13 includes a standard 3.5mm headphone jack and a 4.4mm balanced headphone connection. This ensures you can enjoy your CDs with the best possible sound quality, free from any Bluetooth compression.
  • Rechargeable Battery: No more hunting for AA batteries. The DM13 has a built-in rechargeable battery, providing up to 8 hours of playback time. Enjoy your music without the constant worry of running out of power.
  • Versatile Audio Connections: The DM13 can also be integrated into a home stereo system. It includes analog, SPDIF, and USB audio connections, and the rechargeable battery can be bypassed while the CD player is in “desktop mode” and connected to a permanent power source.
  • Electronic Shock Protection: This feature buffers music to prevent it from skipping while you’re on the go, ensuring a smooth listening experience even during movement.

The DM13 isn’t limited to playing standard CDs. It’s compatible with MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, and WMA audio files burned onto a CD-R. This versatility means you can enjoy a wide range of audio formats, all with the superior sound quality that Fiio is known for.
