Fujifilm X-S20

Even more compact and lightweight than before, the Fujifilm X-S20 offers advanced features such as AI-based subject-detection autofocus (AF) and the ability to record 6.2K/30P video.

It also boasts an extended battery life when compared to its predecessor, allowing for approximately 800 frames to be captured on a single charge, making it perfect for travel photography.

The X-S20 is equipped with a back-illuminated 26.1-megapixel sensor called “X-Trans CMOS 4” and a high-speed image processing engine known as “X-Processor 5.”

These components work together to deliver high-quality images while minimizing power consumption. The camera features a large grip that provides stability while shooting and weighs only 491g, making it comfortable for long-hour sessions. It also incorporates a five-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) mechanism, offering up to a 7.0-stop advantage for steady shots.

One of the standout features of the X-S20 is its video capabilities. Adressing the needs of modern vloggers, creators, and photography/videography enthusiasts alike, the X-S20 boasts features such as support for internal 6.2K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video recording, 3.5mm microphone/earphone jack for connecting external accessories, and also external Apple Prores and Blackmagic RAW recording.

The X-S20 also boasts better, more accurate auto-focus capabilities thanks to its AI-based subject detection AF that can easily track all kinds of subjects including people pets, and even vehicles.

Additionally, the camera introduces a new Vlog Mode that simplifies Vlog creation with easy-to-use touch screen controls for essential parameters. Additionally, Fujifilm also announces a companion tripod with onboard controls.

To complete the modern-day vlog setup, a new lens has also been unveiled. The Fujinon Lens XF8mmF3.5 R WR in June 2023 is the company’s latest ultra wide-angle prime XF lens.

With a focal length of 8mm (equivalent to 12mm in the 35mm format), it is the widest lens in the XF series. It offers a diagonal viewing angle of 121 degrees and a horizontal viewing angle of 112 degrees, capturing a wide range of information beyond human vision.

Fujifilm’s optical design ensures edge-to-edge visual clarity, ideal for landscapes and detailed architectural shots. The lens consists of 12 lens elements in nine groups, including aspherical and ED elements, delivering exceptional image quality by minimizing distortion and aberrations. Autofocus speeds are fast with the ability to detect subjects in as little as 0.02 seconds — perfect for fast moving subjects.

Travel and battle-ready, this lens is als dust and weather resistant and can operate in extreme temperatures. It’s also been designed to repel water and stains which solidifies itself as a durable and versatile lens.

Fujifilm XApp replaces Camera Remote

And finally,  we have the all-new XApp for the Fujifilm’s GFX and X series cameras.

Building upon the functions of the previous Camera Remote app, the XApp offers enhanced features and improved wireless communication stability and speed. Users can remotely operate their cameras from a connected smartphone or tablet, checking the live view and capturing images remotely.

The app also allows for easy viewing of transferred images and provides additional shooting information such as camera and lens details, as well as location data. It basically simplifies communication between the camera and mobile device, making it more convenient for all kinds of creators.

There’s also a useful “Backup/Restore” function to save and apply camera settings, enabling quick adjustments during shooting. The app also introduces new features like “Timeline” and “Activity,” which display shooting information alongside transferred images in a photo diary style, offering users a new way to enjoy and reflect on their photographic activities.
