It isn’t IKEA’s first time to venture into gamer-centric furniture. It’s long been selling gaming chairs, tables, and accessories and even had a collaboration with ASUS ROG.
But the pieces they offered before were very much into the classic gamer aesthetic — dark, moody, and edgy. This time around, in observing the growing diversity of the gaming community, IKEA has released a new collection that’s pretty much the opposite of what you’d think gamer furniture would look like.
The BRÄNNBOLL collection, according to the company, “versatile range of furniture, storage solutions and accessories, designed to not only improve the gaming experience but also support everyday scenarios beyond gameplay. Many pieces carry multiple functions and are designed to be moved around and adapted to different spaces – enabling gamers to swiftly set up an immersive gaming environment and then transition back to their everyday living space without effort.”
For example, the collection features a Gaming Lounge Chair which is basically two square cushions stacked and a third cushion for your back. It has pipe-like arms with cushions for your forearms. The chair sits very low to the ground and can sit even lower, allowing you to stretch, by taking out one of the cushions and using it for your legs.
But why? Lower seating was a large request from the gaming community.
There are very interesting design choices from this collection which, in my opinion, makes it all the more “gamer”.
A brand new product, the BRÄNNBOLL collection introduces the inflatable donut chair that comes with a footstool that hides away in the center of the donut when not in use. There’s also a gaming station with space for a monitor, keyboard, and desktop tower. And it folds away, too.
There are also storage boxes that double as side tables, wall-mounted shelves, and the usual peripherals like mousepads, rugs, and more.
And, as mentioned earlier, the new pieces aren’t decked out in just black, red, or white. You’ll see a vast selection of colors and textures that are sure to please all types of gaming personalities.
