South Korean smartphone manufacturer LG has officially announced in its home country the new LG Velvet. It features a new design language including a ‘raindrop’ triple camera setup and curved edges.
The details previously revealed by the company were indeed implemented on the Velvet. It now comes with a rehauled look as LG veers away from the traditional square-ish design of the previous G-series smartphones.
One of the biggest changes is its triple rear camera setup. This raindrop design is comprised of the main 48-megapixel main shooter at the top, 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens just below it, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor to round up the cluster.
The front-facing camera, on the other hand, features a 16-megapixel shooter housed in a tiny notch just above the display.
Speaking of the display, its screen spans 6.8 inches across and features a POLED panel with a 2460 x 1080 resolution and 20.5:9 aspect ratio — meaning it’s a bit on the tall side. The device has also been sealed and received an IP68 protection for water- and dust-proofing.
Other supported features include a stylus for digital note-taking and navigation as well as autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) recording which has been becoming popular today.
Inside, the LG Velvet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G chip with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. It runs on Android 10 and is capable of 5G connectivity. Lastly, battery capacity is rated at 4300mAh and comes with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ through its USB-C port.
For now, availability will start in Korea with a price tag of KRW 899,800 (approx. PhP 37K or US$ 733).
