McDonald’s has taken a trip down memory lane to celebrate the birthday of one of its most beloved characters, Grimace.
While we’ve seen Grimace take over Mcdonald’s socials, the fast-food giant unpredictably released a brand-new game for the Game Boy Color, a console that has been out of production for over two decades. The game — Grimace’s Birthday Adventure — is a delightful throwback to the golden age of handheld gaming and a fitting tribute to the iconic purple blob.
According to a recent article on IGN, the game was developed in collaboration with a team of retro gaming enthusiasts that are fans of the classic Game Boy Color platform. The ROM file is available to download for free but you can also play the game on your browser.

Grimace’s Birthday Adventure is a 2D platformer that takes players on a journey through various McDonald’s-themed levels, collecting items and battling enemies along the way. The game features a cast of characters from the McDonaldland universe, including Ronald McDonald himself, Hamburglar, and Birdie the Early Bird. Players must help Grimace navigate through these levels, solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles to reach his birthday party.
In addition to the game, McDonald’s has also released a limited-edition Grimace-themed Game Boy Color console. The device features a purple shell adorned with images of Grimace and his friends, as well as a custom startup screen that plays the McDonald’s jingle. These limited-edition consoles are available exclusively through select McDonald’s locations and are expected to become highly sought-after collector’s items.
