New instax Wide 400 instant camera now official

-

It’s been a long time coming but a new instax Wide 400 camera has finally been announced!

And when we say a long time, we mean it. It’s been about 10 years or so since the first wide-format instax camera came out but we finally have a new one in 2024. The instax Wide 400 debuts with a US$ 149.95 price tag along with a complete design overhaul and a few new features.

instax Wide 400 is visibly smaller and cuter than its predecessor and now also comes in a single-color finish including an all-new Sage Green colorway. Fujifilm has repositioned the viewfinder to the right side of the camera, catering to right-eye-dominant photographers for improved image composition. This subtle yet significant change enhances the user experience, making it more intuitive and comfortable for capturing those perfect moments.

Other than that, you’ll find the usual elements of an instax camera. As for its new features, we have a new self-timer, two-range focus modes, automatic exposure, and flash control.

The new self-timer feature offers flexibility with two-second increments up to 10 seconds, allowing photographers to be part of the memory. The automatic exposure and flash control ensure that every shot is perfectly exposed, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. Its two-range focus modes come in Normal and Landscape mode but the instax Wide 400 gives you more options. With the addition of an optional close-up lens, the Wide 400 can focus on subjects as close as 15 inches away. And let’s not forget the built-in selfie mirror, ensuring that every self-portrait is framed just right.

The updates to the instax Wide 400 may be incremental, especially when compared to the recently launched mini 99, but its a welcome update to the well-loved wider format of the instant camera.
