OPPO unveils latest innovation in smartphone photography — MariSilicon X

-

The evolution of smartphone photography in the Philippines has given many aspiring Filipino photographers and content creators the opportunity to further hone their craft. OPPO unveiled during the recently concluded OPPO INNO Day 2021 its latest innovation in smartphone photography—its first self-designed cutting-edge Imaging NPU MariSilicon X.

Comparable to processors in computers, an NPU or neural processing unit is a chip that vastly improves machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) in a smartphone. This translates to a better overall user experience along with improved photos and videos using AI features.

Combining this technology with more dedicated hardware for photography and video capture, MariSilicon X addresses some photography issues smartphone users face while doubling down on enhancing OPPO features for taking that perfect photo and capturing precious moments in 4K resolution.

Exceptional battery and performance

While taking photos does not usually put a strain on a smartphone’s battery, taking videos does, especially when it is in 4K. Factor in the AI algorithms that improve video quality going on in the background and you might have to plug in your phone sooner rather than later.

But not with OPPO’s MariSilicon X.

It can deliver up to 18 TOPS or trillion operations per second, at 11.6 TOPS per watt, ensuring every bit of your battery life will be used efficiently. Compared with the OPPO Find X3 Pro, which does not have the MariSilicon X, shooting in 4K at 40fps consumes 50% more power. That added bit of juice gives you more time you might need to take more scenic photos or your soon-to-be-viral video.

Need to switch apps while shooting? Multitasking will not be a problem either, as the dedicated chip takes care of the advanced AI features without affecting other processes running on the smartphone. Coupled with its multi-tier memory architecture, you are free to check social media or tweak your photos and splice videos with an editor without worrying that more apps running will slow down your phone.

4x better HDR images

Whether you’re a budding photographer or a seasoned lensman, you need a camera with good HDR or a high dynamic range. This is the range between the lightest and darkest sections of an image, which are usually about 16-18bit. With MariSilicon X, OPPO is able to achieve 20bit.

If you are already familiar—or even impressed—with the HDR output of the Find X3 Pro, the next OPPO smartphone powered by MariSilicon X can produce photos with HDR at four times better. Specifically, it will be at 20bit, 120db dynamic range or 1 million to 1 contrast ratio between the brightest and darkest parts of the image.

This results in photos that look as true to life as possible. That’s how photos should be, right?

Real-time RAW processing on smartphones

The pros and cons between shooting in RAW or taking a photo in a compressed format, like JPG or PNG, is a subject best left for the experts. But shooting in RAW undoubtedly has huge advantages, especially for photographers looking to hone their craft. It would also be extra helpful if a smartphone can process RAW photos and videos, a method that is usually done on professional software on a computer.

With its large computing power and fast data transfer speeds, MariSilicon X can achieve real-time RAW processing to apply 4K AI improvements and 20bit HDR fusion all the way down at the pixel level. This further revolutionizes an OPPO smartphone’s capability to provide photographers with all the tools they will need to maximize the quality and resolution of their output.

Limitless capabilities of OPPO’s RGBW sensor

RAW processing could be fun but what if you just want to take great-looking photos without the added effort? MariSilicon X empowers you to achieve just that, allowing you to pursue nothing but the best in all your pursuits.

The dedicated chip fully unlocks OPPO’s recent innovations with its RGBW sensor using Dual Image Pipeline design and double raw supersampling. These complement the new state-of-the-art sensor that allows more light in while reducing noise, further improving texture quality without much need for extensive editing. Just point and shoot!

Stunning quality Dark/Night-Time videos

Taking photos and videos at night or in low-light environments can always be a head-scratcher, especially for casual smartphone photographers. Sure, you can always bring a ring light or an extra lamp, but you won’t be lugging a couple around all the time right?

Combining AI features such as noise reduction algorithms with the wider dynamic range and improved RGBW sensor, MariSilicon X has made possible 4K AI HDR Night Video capturing on OPPO smartphones. Each frame looks as rich and defined as a still photo.

If you’re excited about these monumental innovations in smartphone photography, OPPO has some great news for you. MariSilicon X is set to make its commercial debut on OPPO’s Find X Series this 2022, bringing with it the most powerful smartphone imaging experience.
