After five years of anticipation, Sony and Honda’s joint venture, AFEELA, has opened reservations for its inaugural electric vehicle, the AFEELA 1. Unveiled at CES 2025, this marks Sony’s official entry into the automotive market, blending its technological prowess with Honda’s automotive expertise.
The collaboration between Sony and Honda began in 2020, aiming to merge advanced electronics with automotive manufacturing. Their shared vision was to create a vehicle that seamlessly integrates entertainment, connectivity, and mobility. This partnership has now materialized into the AFEELA 1, a sleek sedan designed to compete in the luxury EV segment.
The AFEELA 1 has many characteristics that embody both companies. On the automotive side, Honda has long been advocating for safety which is evident with the suite of safety features onbaord AFEELA’s vehicles. We also have the dependable design language of Honda that’s slightly altered to achieve a more modern, sleek, and futuristic look.
And futuristic is what it achieves. From its exterior design to its interior which features touch displays even for the passengers, a smarter AI and personal assistant, and more. But probably its most defining feature is its Media Bar — a customizable LED display between the vehicle’s headlights. The AFEELA is also a connected vehicle with its own app and is available for OTA updates.
The AFEELA 1 is available in two trims: the Origin, starting at US$ 89,900, and the Signature, priced at US$ 102,900. Both models come with a complimentary three-year subscription to features like Level 2+ driver assistance and an AI-powered personal assistant.
The vehicle boasts an EPA-estimated range of up to 300 miles and supports Tesla’s Supercharger network, thanks to its native NACS charging port. Under the hood, it features dual 180 kW motors providing all-wheel drive, powered by a 91 kWh lithium-ion battery. The AFEELA 1 also includes 40 sensors and cameras to facilitate semi-autonomous driving, augmented reality integration, and a dashboard spanning display for an immersive user experience.
Reservations are currently open exclusively to California residents, requiring a refundable $200 deposit. Deliveries for the Signature trim are expected to commence in mid-2026, with the Origin trim following in 2027. As the automotive landscape evolves, the AFEELA 1 represents a significant step in the convergence of technology and mobility, promising a new era of intelligent electric vehicles.
