Telesin mounts quick review

-

If there’s one thing that gets us down the gear rabbit hole, it’s accessories. There are a ton of knick-knacks and thingamajigs you can buy for your camera that adds to the whole shooting experience. Whether its an action cam, mirrorless cam, or whatever else, mounts, grips, and add-ons are inevitable purchases.

One of our go-to brands is Telesin. They’re not only more affordable than the name-brand models but they’re also of good quality: sturdy, durable, and normally comes in a very complete package.

When we got a hold of an Insta360 X4, we almost immediately went online to check on mounts, and here are a few that we’ve picked up from Telesin that work very well with this action camera as well as our other cameras.

Quick-release Adapter Set

A good place to start will be to get the very affordable Telesin Magnetic Quick Release Adapter Set. Since it ships with a bunch of different mounts (three claw quick release, two claw quick release, and 1/4 screw quick release), you can easily attach to other accessories. Even non Telesin ones.’

This little addition is a time saver allowing you to switch between different mounts and accessories easily. Built-in magnets make it easy to blindly attach your camera and there’s also an audible click so you can make sure it’s locked and secured. This adapter set works with all the accessories we’ll be talking about in this article.

Since it is on the smaller side, however, you will be limited to lighter cameras like action cameras or 360 cameras.

Three-arm suction mount

First on the list is probably our favorite right now, the Telesin Three-arm suction mount. A very versatile mounting option, the Telesin three-arm suction mount features a Bionic Frog Palm design which is comprised of three strong suction cups (with pressure latches) attached to an aluminum balance plate. What makes the Telesin three-arm suction mount a great value is also that it comes with a quick-release, detachable metal ball head that you can use on other mounts, tripods, or selfie sticks.

Since the mounts utilize ball joints, you can also freely move as needed and even adjust the height.

Additionally, you can even use the suction cups individually by detaching them from the balancing plate. So should one suction be all you need, you just have to detach the parts and attach your ball head or whatever mount you’re using.

The whole system has a max load capacity of 1.5KG so even cameras can be mounted. We’ve successfully mounted a Sony A6400, Sony A7RV, and an insta360 X4 on it with no issues

Magnetic Base Camera Mount

Working similar to the suction mount but with more ease, this Magnetic Base Camera Mount from Telesin is perfect for the run-and-gun shooter. You simply place the mount an any magnetic surface and it will stay there securely thanks to 6 powerful magnets distributed strategically around the base.

The magnetic mount claims to withstand 7KG of pull force so it doesn’t come off easily. We’ve used it on the hood of the vehicle while driving and didn’t have any fear of it falling. And since the base is wrapped in soft silicone, there wasn’t any damage to the hood either. The kit includes a three-prong claw and 1/4 screw mount so it’s ready to use right out of the box.

The mount also comes with dual ball joints so it’s also very versatile and can be positioned high or low. The only thing Telesin does recommend is not add extension rods to this mount or to use it above speeds of 60km/h. In these situation, it’s better to opt for the suction mount for more security.

3m Carbon Fiber Selfie Stick

And finally, a new essential for today’s creators and media professionals — a very long selfie stick. Telesin’s new generation selfie stick can be extended to a full 3 meteres so you can get that third-person shot or fake drone shot without much effort. It offers a length of 44cm at its shortest and offers a rubber grip. There’s also a 1/4 screw at the bottom to attach a lanyard, tripod feet, or to attach it to other mounts.

Made of carbon fiber, it’s incredibly light and portable but still sturdy enough for the insta360 X4, even when fully extended. It does cause a slight bend which is common for longer selfie sticks but it doesn’t interfere with the stitching of the 360 video in any way.

Combining mounts

The beauty of these mounts from Telesin is that they’re not fully designed just for one camera. You can switch up between action cameras, 360 cameras, and even full-fledged mirrorless cameras.

For example, we were able to attach an insta360 X4 to the selfie stick and then attach that to the three-arm suction mount. Of course, this isn’t as secure as insta360’s dedicated car mount but this works in a pinch if we don’t need to shoot a fast-moving vehicle. And since they’re all mounted with the quick-release adapters, we could transfer from this setup to the magnetic mount on the hood in no time. c
