The Instax Mini 99 is an exciting Instax camera, here’s why

-

The Instax Mini 99 may seem like just another Instax camera on the outside, but it’s one of the more interesting releases from the company so far.

From more advanced controls to built-in LED lights, the Instax Mini 99 seemingly addresses the pain points of old Instax cameras ( i.e., the tendency to overexpose) while introducing exciting new features that add a fresh twist to the instant photography experience.

Instax Mini 99 new features:

Built-in LED Lights

The Mini 99 introduces a unique feature with its built-in LED lights. These lights fire directly onto the film during exposure, offering users six different color effects to enhance their photos. From warm tones to subtle sepia, these LED lights add a playful touch to your instant prints, allowing for more creative expression.

Advanced Controls

With the Mini 99, Fujifilm has given users more control over their photography. Adding new dials allows for adjustments in brightness and color effects, allowing photographers to fine-tune their shots to perfection. This added level of control opens up new creative possibilities and ensures that every shot is just right.

Manual Vignette Mode

While previous Instax models like the Mini 90 offered vignette effects, the Mini 99 takes it a step further with a dedicated manual vignette mode. With the flick of a switch, users can now easily add a touch of drama to their photos, drawing focus to the center of the frame for a more dynamic composition.

More Functional Design

In addition to its advanced features, the Mini 99 also boasts a more functional design. With added conveniences like a tripod mount and dual shutter buttons for both portrait and landscape orientations, capturing the perfect shot has never been easier. These refinements enhance usability without straying from the classic Instax aesthetic.

Borrowing the Best

Drawing inspiration from previous Instax favorites, the Mini 99 includes beloved features like bulb and double exposure modes. Whether you’re capturing light trails with bulb mode or experimenting with layered exposures in double exposure mode, these features add a touch of creativity to your instant prints.

What else do you need to know?

The Instax Mini 99 keeps things classic with its compatibility with the beloved Instax Mini Film cartridges, alongside the introduction of the sleek Photo Slide design.

Just like its predecessor, the Mini 99 boasts a rechargeable, replaceable battery. However, similar to the Mini 90, it doesn’t support in-camera charging – a bummer for those hoping for added convenience. And here’s a heads up: the Mini 99 won’t accept the battery from its Mini 90 counterpart

When it comes to shooting modes, the Mini 99 offers a familiar lineup including Indoor, Sports, and Normal, alongside the exciting Bulb and Double Exposure options. Plus, it comes in a sleek Black color, with an optional official carrying case available for those who want to amp up their style game. And don’t forget – you can easily digitize your prints with the InstaxUP app, keeping your memories safe in a digital photo book.

Pricing and availability

The Instax Mini 99 is now available for US$ 199.95. For accessories, it comes with a shoulder strap and base grip for shooting vertical photos. The optional camera case goes for US$ 19.99 but is still currently unavailable at the time of writing. There’s also a bundle that comes with two packs of film (total 40 exposures) that goes for US$ 230.

The new Instax Photo Slide design is now also available for US$ 18 for the 10 pack.

In the Philippines, the Instax Mini 99 is now available for PhP 12,499.
