The Sony ZV-E10 II is set up to still be the content creator’s pick

-

Sony Electronics has introduced the ZV-E10 II, the next iteration of its highly popular mirrorless ZV-E10 camera. Known for its ease of use, compact design, and versatility, the original ZV-E10 has been a favorite among content creators. The ZV-E10 II builds on this legacy by retaining beloved features such as Creative Looks, Product Showcase Setting, Background Defocus, and the vari-angle flip screen, while offering enhanced performance and user experience.

The ZV-E10 II features an upgraded 26-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and Sony’s latest BIONZ XR image processing engine, delivering improved image quality and performance. Key upgrades include:

  • Enhanced Autofocus: Improved accuracy and speed for both stills and video.
  • Cinematic Vlog Setting: Simplifies achieving a cinematic look with one touch.
  • Vertical Format UI: Streamlines vertical content creation.
  • Large-Capacity Battery: New Sony Z battery for longer recording sessions.
  • Improved Connectivity: Easier live streaming and data transfer.

Staying true to the ZV Series’ philosophy, the ZV-E10 II is designed to make content creation more straightforward, allowing creators to focus on their art rather than camera settings.

Despite its advanced features, the camera remains compact and lightweight at approximately 377 grams, fitting comfortably in hand.

Alongside the camera, Sony also announced the E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II lens. This new APS-C power zoom lens is available separately or as part of the ZV-E10 II kit.

A quicker content creation workflow

The ZV-E10 II is designed to elevate content creation with two key features: Creative Looks and Cinematic Vlog Setting. Creative Looks offers ten pre-set options like Standard, Portrait, and Vivid, allowing users to enhance their images instantly. Each option is customizable, and users can save up to six custom styles for easy access.

Cinematic Vlog Setting simplifies video creation by automatically adjusting settings for a cinematic look. Users can choose from five visual styles, including S-Cinetone for improved skin tones, and four color “Moods,” enhancing creative expression.

In addition to the upgraded 26MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, the ZV-E10 II’s technical specifications are also impressive. It features 5.6K oversampling for high-quality 4K footage, Active Mode electronic image stabilization, and the upgraded Z battery supports continuous recording for up to 195 minutes per charge. Of course, it’s compatible with over 70 Sony E-mount lenses.

Here’s what you can expect the Sony ZV-E10 II offers as a content creation-focused camera:

  • Vertical User Interface: Auto-rotates from horizontal to vertical orientation, paired with a vari-angle LCD monitor for flexible viewing angles.
  • 4K 60p and 120p Capture: Records with S&Q mode for 5x slow motion (24p playback).
  • Product Showcase Setting: Smooth focus transitions from the subject’s face to the highlighted item for product review videos.
  • Background Defocus Function: One-touch adjustment of depth of field to create a bokeh effect.
  • Face Priority Auto-Exposure: Optimizes facial brightness in varying lighting conditions during active recording.
  • Soft Skin Effect: Reduces blemishes and smooths the appearance of the subject’s skin.
  • Time-Lapse Creation: Customizable exposure intervals from 1 second to 60 seconds for in-camera time-lapse sequences.
  • Advanced 3-Capsule Microphone with Windscreen: Offers selectable directivity with options for “Auto,” “Front,” “Rear,” or “All Directions” to capture clear, high-quality audio.
  • Livestreaming: Supported through 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity

Unfortunately, there are some things we’re still missing from the ZV-E10 II like a mechanical shutter and some of its pricier cousins’ fancy AI tricks.

Pricing and Availability

The ZV-E10 II will be available at the end of July 2024 for a suggested retail price of US$ 999 for the camera body only, and US$ 1,099 for the kit.  The E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II in black will be available in August 2024 for a suggested retail price of US$ 299.
