The Tilta Khronos system — which includes about 30 or so accessories — was first teased in December of last year when Angie Su and Claudio Miranda debuted The X Gift — a film shot entirely on iPhone.
Originally slated for a January 2024 launch, the Tilta Khronos ecosystem, instead, makes an appearance at this year’s NAB show.
What is Tilta Khronos?
Tilta Khronos is a comprehensive lineup of filmmaking accessories crafted for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. At the heart of the system are the custom-designed aluminum alloy cages. Built specifically for the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro Max, the Tilta Khronos cages connect to the USB-C port and feature multiple mounting points including a locking clamp for mounting handles, additional USB ports, and more.
What makes the Khoronos a versatile cage for filmmaking are the multiple integrated contact points that allow power the system’s accessories. No worries on draining your iPhone battery since power is drawn from the Power Handle accessory instead. Of course, a MagSafe mount is ready at the back.
The Tilta Khronos cage comes in two colors: Space Gray and Titanium White
The Khronos Ecosystem
While the cage is its heart, all its accessories are the meat. The Tilta Khronos ecosystem features about 30 products, each addressing different needs of mobile filmmaking.
One of the first things you’ll want to get your hands on is the aforementioned Focus HD Handle. Attaching to either side of the cage, the Power Handle is the source of, well, power to the rest of the accessories. It comes with a built-in, USB-C rechargeable battery. It also provides onboard controls for focus and zoom for more ergonomic operation.
In addition to the power handle, there’s also a circular wooden handle that features a NATO rail for mounting accessories, a simpler wooden handle, and an adjustable handle.
As for what accessories you can mount on the Khronos, you have your pick. For your most basic filmmaking needs, the Khronos ecosystem comes with a mini LED panel, a lens adapter and filter tray, magnetic filters, and a selection of quick-release adapters. Additionally, you can mount a MagSafe-compatible cooling system which helps keep temperatures down when shooting.
There’s also a quick-release USB-C hub should you need more ports, an SSD holder, a magnetic power bank, and external monitor mounts as well.
