OPPO has already announced that it will be entering a three-year partnership with legendary camera manufacturer, Hasselblad. But what exactly does this mean?
It’s simple. With Hasselblad, OPPO will be conducting research and development projects to develop more advanced imaging solutions.
With Hasselblad’s expertise, OPPO aims to bring faithful color reproduction and increased camera capabilities to its devices.
This will be accessible to users via the Hasselblad for Mobile that will take the place of the device’s current camera UI.
OPPO has also announced that the Hasselblad for Mobile system will be introduced in the next generation of its flagship Find X series.
Interestingly, OPPO is not the first to partner with the camera manufacturer.
Early last year, OnePlus released the OnePlus 9 series carrying the first generation Hasselblad for Mobile that worked with the device’s quad-camera setup.
And just last January, OnePlus followed with the OnePlus 10 Pro now carrying second-generation Hasselblad technology.
With the newly developed Hasselblad for Mobile, the OnePlus 10 Pro can offer 120bit RAW images with Hasselblad Natural Color Solution.
There’s also a RAW+ format that will excite more serious creators as it’s able to offer a wider dynamic range.
For video, there’s also LOG format which offers a flat color profile that’s ideal for color grading.
But with OPPO and OnePlus’ integration, it’s no surprise that Hasselblad for Mobile will be available on devices from both companies.
But it remains to be seen if the features available will be similar.
Interestingly, it’s not the first time that we’ve seen an iconic name in the photography industry team up with a smartphone manufacturer.
Leica, which is also a household name in industry, has also been working together with Huawei for its P-series. It’s been reported, though, that the partnership will not continue and that the P50 series will be the last.
