5 top apps for the Huawei Y5P

A couple of months since its release and the Huawei Y5P is still holding its own in being a very affordable and capable device. Whether for leisure or for work, it delivers reliable performance to get you through the day. When we reviewed it, it exceeded our expectations for a phone at its price point and offered useful features as well as adequate battery life. You can watch our review below:

But, of course, what’s a smartphone without its apps? The Huawei Y5P supports a number of apps in many categories that can be found in the Huawei AppGallery. To start you off, we created this small list of what we think are the best apps that will help you fully enjoy the device.

Just a quick note for this roundup, we’re going to leave out some of the more obvious choices (Facebook, MS Office, TikTok, etc.) so we can showcase the variety of other apps you can download from the AppGallery.

Top apps for the Huawei Y5P

AquaMail – Having an app to let you quickly read, reply, or compose email is essential and this app does just that. AquaMail supports a number of mail providers, including Gmail and Yahoo, that you can easily connect to. And if you have more than one email, you can upgrade to the Pro version so you can have all your accounts in one app. The app also offers widgets and calendar syncing and also works with Android Wear devices.

Wattpad – Take a quick break or get some reading done with Wattpad. The app offers a good selection of both paid and free content to choose from that span across a range of categories and genres. And if you’re in the writing mood, Wattpad even lets you write your own stories. These can be shared with others and you can even add cover art to make it look like a real book.

Focus To-Do – Working or studying from home entails a lot of distractions. It’s so easy to move from task to task without actually getting anything done. Focus To-Do is a great tool to have on hand to keep you, well, focused. It uses the Pomodoro technique which encourages taking a break every 25 minutes of full, uninterrupted work. In addition to that, Focus To-Do also has additional time and task management tools to help keep you organized and productive throughout the day.

ROCKMAN x DiVE – We all need a break from work and if you’ve ever wondered about the charm of Rockman (also known as Megaman) or retro games in general, then this game may be what you’re looking for.  Developed by Capcom itself, it calls this mobile port an “uncompromised representation” of the original games. The side-scroller really is reminiscent of the original Megaman games and is a really fun way to pass time.

Petal Search – The Huawei AppGallery does have a multitude of apps available and the company is working on adding even more as time passes by. But for apps that you can’t find, you can try Petal Search. It basically acts as a search engine that scours the web for available APKs. Simply type in the name of the app you’re looking for in the search bar and it will direct you to a download of the APK which you can then safely install on your phone.

Conclusion

Those are five top apps we think will help you enjoy the Huawei Y5P and we’re pretty sure there are more out there. As we mentioned earlier, the Huawei AppGallery is growing every day and more and more apps will be available to enjoy across all of Huawei’s devices.

The Huawei Y5P proves that you can get a good smartphone without having to shell out a lot of money. It holds a price tag of just PhP 4,490 and is currently already available for purchase.

Coronavirus: 5 quick tips for a mentally stronger you

From the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, not only did everyone face the fear of the virus, but it triggered worries and anxiety amongst us. In such unprecedented times, we face the threat of job loss, financial insecurity, liquidation of businesses, and even the loss of loved ones for some.

And since we all still have to carry on despite these trials, here are five tips to help you become mentally strong during this time of crisis.

Meditate

Calmness is an inside job. Most of our thoughts are filled with what we see, absorb, and choose to remember from our lives. Imagine the amount of load we have inside our minds accumulated through the many years of unpleasant memories and experiences.

This could potentially come down on us all of a sudden so this is where meditation comes in. We need to be able to purge these thoughts and quiet the mind for at least 20 minutes to an hour a day.

Find a comfortable position, close your eyes, and collect all the unnecessary thoughts that bother you and toss them into an imaginary receptacle for disposal. It might sound non-realistic for some but it really helps to disassociate yourself from these things.

Breathe

Learning from the Navy SEALs who have one of the most difficult trainings in their profession, the 4 x 4 x 4 technique is advisable to do daily upon waking up or during instances when you feel stressed out.

Inhale for four seconds through the nose, hold it in for four seconds, exhale for four seconds, then hold your lungs empty for another four seconds before repeating from the start.

You can do this for five minutes or until you feel relaxed or refocused once again.

Turn adversity to opportunity

Consider looking at the situation from a different perspective. Reframe and see it differently from the aspect of either context or content.

This means you could take an active look at how you are interpreting external situations and see these “bad” events as a challenge for you. You could react to it by finding a way to improve it or improve yourself to react better towards it.

The point is to not let something negative consume you completely.

Practice gratefulness

Try to list down at least three things you are grateful for each day as acknowledging such things creates a virtuous circle of positivity.

It doesn’t have to be something grand. Small victories still keep one’s morale high — even if it’s just the fact that you have breakfast on the table is already something to be thankful about.

Set goals

Do not let your ambitions be crushed by external forces such as other people, your leaders, or even a worldwide pandemic. Continue to create your goals — whether long- or short-term. Plus, know what to accomplish each day and be determined not to quit more so when things get a bit challenging.

Final thoughts

We are indeed going through challenging times. Not just because of the pandemic, but also due to all the negative things happening in the world right now.

It’s easy to feel defeated and the urge to give up is just around the corner. But making it through this challenge can make us better and stronger than ever before. This is why we need to be reminded of how we can be mentally tougher through these simple things.

We are all in this together and we can get through this together as well.
