LOOK: Maldives builds quarantine resort for coronavirus patients

The chaos brought by the COVID-19 pandemic has had a lot of hospitals full and other quarantine sites populated in almost an instant due to patients needing to be treated and isolated from others.

Because of this, the government of Maldives, one of the smallest countries in Asia, took initiative and has opted to transform one of its abandoned resorts into a quarantine facility for both locals and visitors infected with the virus.

South China Morning Post reports that an island called Villivaru in the Kaafu Atoll is the site of the quarantine hotel. The report further details that it took about 50 workers to build 30 ‘luxury rooms’ in just 10 days.

Though the size of each room isn’t comparable to a suite, each room has its own flat-screen TV, air conditioner, and even a stocked up minibar in addition to room service meals.

Lodging and even doctors for the patients are free of charge. However, visitors are strictly prohibited at the resort and activities like snorkeling are not allowed.

As of the time of writing, there have been 13 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Maldives with three recovered cases and no reported deaths.
