Facebook releases Tuned, an app made for couples

Facebook quietly released a new app on the iOS app store which caters specifically to couples. Called Tuned, this new app is a private messaging app at its core but with additional features that are meant to improve communication between partners.

Facebook describes the app as a “private space where you and your significant other can just be yourselves.” Apart from its private messaging feature, Tuned utilizes a “scrapbook-style” feed where couples can post a variety of things to share and express themselves to their significant other.

You can post photos, send cards or custom stickers, and even send voice notes. It also has a daily diary feature for talking about your day and is also capable of integrating with Spotify so you can easily share songs. Tuned also comes with a widget where you can set your own mood so your partner can instantly see how you’re feeling.

At this moment, it seems that this app will most likely cater to couples who are either in long-distance relationships or are separated because of social distancing. With Tuned’s additional features and tools, couples will be able to go beyond just calls, texts, and chats.

This new app was actually brought to life by Facebook’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) team. This division focuses more on small and focused experimental apps and experiences. Facebook explains that due to its experimental nature, apps from this team are more likely to disappear if they aren’t doing well. Currently, they have one other app active on the App Store, Hobbi, which was made to rival Pinterest.

Unfortunately, the initial release Tuned is exclusive to iPhone and iPad users. It’s now available to download on the App Store for users in the US and Canada.

Samsung Galaxy Watch6

For a non-iOS device, you can look at the Samsung Galaxy Watch6. Still one of the best Android wearables around, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 offers a wide range of features as well and is built to look and feel premium.

The only downside of these watches, however, is their battery life (which lasts about a day) so you may want to throw in a desk charger if you’re thinking of gifting.

For the tech-forward

Oura Ring Gen 3

Not a smartwatch. Not a fitness band. But definitely tech-forward. Though harder to find and probably maintain on Philippine shores, the Oura Ring Gen 3 is the pick for the tech-forward user who wants to stay ahead of the pack.

It offers a little less than your average smartwatch or fitness band but is a piece you’ll end up talking about with anyone. It is a little harder to cop since you can only purchase it through its official site for now but if you’re gifting, the extra effort is sure to make it special.

Final thoughts

Whether you’re on the lookout for a smartwatch/fitness band/wearable for yourself or to gift, you’re pretty much spoilt for choice. Premium, fashionable, or affordable, there’s a wearable for everyone.
