These are the new Dell XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops

Dell’s XPS laptops have been known for delivering a flagship-level performance combined with sleek, elegant, and durable designs. And with the continuing success of its XPS 13, the company has introduced a follow-up to its bigger siblings — the new XPS 15 and XPS 17. They are equipped with useful features packed in a thin, lightweight body.

Dell XPS 15 (2020)

The XPS 15 carries a 15.6-inch, Ultra HD+ VESA-certified display capable of HDR and up to 4K resolution at a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display itself is 5% larger than its predecessor and is able to produce almost 1 million more pixels. It boasts an almost bezel-less display with the 4-sided InfinityEdge that produces a screen-to-body ratio of 92.9%. Dell claims that the new XPS 15 is the smallest performance-class 15-inch laptop available in the market right now.

With over 16 million colors available, the XPS 15 can promises bright, saturated, and true-to-life color. And with a wider color gamut, it’s able to show colors and shades that are not usually found on a conventional sRGB panel. It’s also protected by an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare despite it being a glossy screen.

Made of authentic and premium materials, the XPS 15’s enclosure is sculpted by a specific process to ensure durability. The aluminum has been bonded with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for increased resistance against scratches. Additionally, it’s also equipped with a fingerprint scanner on the power button for added security and easier login. There are also two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one USB-C port, and one full-size SD card reader.

For audio, it’s equipped with top firing speaker grilles that consist of two primary up-firing speakers and two additional tweeters. This time around, the XPS 15’s quad-speaker system supports Waves Nx 3D audio — a feature previously offered specifically to headphones. This makes the XPS 15 the first-ever 15-inch laptop to have speakers that support the immersive, 3D sound of Waves Nx 3D audio.

Internally, the XPS 15 carries no less than 10th-generation Intel Core processors that can be configured up to an i9 processor, up to 64GB of RAM, and up to 2TB SSD storage. Working with the latest Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology, the laptop intelligently changes the CPU power to increase performance for the current task. The graphics department is powered by a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti with dedicated GPU power for heavier workloads.

With that much power, it only makes sense that the XPS 15 is also packing some advanced cooling tech. Onboard, it has dual fans, heat pipes, a hidden exhaust in the vents to help airflow, and a slight ram to lift the device and let more heat out. It also runs on GORE Thermal Insulation which provides thermal conductivity levels lower than air to help keep the internals cool.
With all that power and features, the company claims the XPS 15 to still be able to churn out up to 25 hours of battery life when working on an FHD+ resolution.

Now if you’re liking these specs but are looking for something a bit bigger in size, you can turn your attention to the XPS 17.

DELL XPS 17 (2020)

Unlike its smaller sibling, the XPS 17 houses a bigger 17-inch 4K UHD+ VESA-certified, InfinityEdge display and boasts of a higher screen-to-body ratio of 93.7%. Dell claims that this large screen in such a small device makes the XPS 17 even smaller than 48% of all 15-inch laptops on the market.

Additionally, the XPS 17 has two additional Thunderbolt 3 ports to make a total of four. Much of the other hardware specs of the XPS 17 are identical to that of the XPS 15.

Internally, it mirrors the capabilities of the XPS 15 with configurable 10th-generation Intel processors that can go up to i9. It does, however, tout a more powerful graphics card in the form of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060.

Another noteworthy feature about the XPS 17 is its unique Dual Opposite Outlet fan design. Found on systems with NVIDIA graphics onboard, this specific design increases the fan’s airflow and pushes it in both directions to cool the device’s components. This results in an improvement to the overall airflow by 30% while also improving surface temperatures, meaning the device should handle heat dissipation better.

The Dell XPS 15 comes with a starting retail price of US$ 1,299.99 (approx. PhP 66K). On the other hand, the Dell XPS 17 will be released later on during the summer of this year with a starting price of US$ 1,499.99 (approx. PhP 76K).

All the cool things you can find at UNBOX Greenhills

Greenhills Mall in San Juan, Metro Manila isn’t just one of the most popular shopping centers in the Philippines. It’s also a treasure trove of exquisite toys and collectibles if you know where to look.

But something new has popped up on the second floor of the Promenade wing that may make hunting down those toys or collectibles a little easier.

What is it?

UNBOX Greenhills is a 500sqm space that looks just a tad bit different than your regular store. It doesn’t have its own inventory per se and, instead, rents out cabinets to sellers for PhP 3,500 a month.

The sellers or merchants will then be able to fill up their rented cabinets with whatever their goods are. UNBOX will then take over and assist in operations and marketing.

In addition to that, there’s also a live selling studio that renters can use for online selling.

The setup is unique and results in customers being treated to a rather fascinating variety of goods — some of which are highly elusive and exclusive.

So many toys!

Of course, it goes without saying, you’re going to see A LOT of toys here. Quite a number of the boxes hold a lot of toys and figures that you won’t normally find at your local toy store.

Funko Pop fan? There are tons of exclusives here. Pop culture or movie buff? There are also rare, early-edition toys that we haven’t seen in a very long time!

Whether you’re a comic book geek or certified otaku, you’re sure to find something here.

We saw a bunch of Marvel figurines (some loose, some boxed), Japan-exclusive toys, custom figures, and so much more!

Shoes to make you drool

Sneakerhead? Then you’re going to enjoy the interesting and unique collections at UNBOX Greenhills.

I’m not a big sneakerhead myself (so pardon me if I can’t name them) but was still really impressed with the store’s offerings.

From what we saw during our quick trip, you can find shoes ranging from PhP 2,000, PhP 5,000, PhP 15,000, and more.

And unlike your regular shoe store, a lot of the shoes come in just 1 or 2 sizes, depending on what the merchant has.

Shiny watches and rare collectibles

While not as present as the others mentioned above, you will find some cabinets offering unique and premium watches.

From G-shock to Seiko, we were able to see a pretty good range of choices that may urge watch collectors to bring out their wallets when they visit the store.

There are also quite a large number of different collectibles! The basketball cards were very present in a lot of cabinets but you’ll also find some Pokèmon cards, signed memorabilia, and vintage items to name a few.

Celebrity Corner

Right when you enter the store, you’ll see five stars marked on the first few glass cabinets and up top a large sign that says VIB or Very Important Boxes. These are celebrity-owned items or merch that are up for grabs.

Currently on display are items from Carlo Ople, Madd Creatives by Jed Madela, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Chinkee Tan, Wetworks, and Bea Benedicto.

Like the other cabinets, items in VIB may also change as well as the featured celebrities.

Project 7 to 1 by Carlo Ople and Pop n’ Shop

Further down the store are special areas for Project 7 to 1 merch and Funko Pop toys and shirts from Pop n’ Shop.

Project 7 to 1 features a Steal Cabinet where you can cop the hottest goods for less. Apart from a curated selection of shoes, you can also find original merch and collabs.

You can also find merch from popular tech creators in the Philippines like Mary Bautista, Alvin tries Tech, and Isa does tech.

What else is there?

One of the magical things about Unbox Greenhills is that you’ll probably have a different experience each time. While some cabinets may have predictable items, you’ll really never know what you’ll find on your next visit.

If you’re not into toys, shoes, or expensive collectibles, there are also cabinets that offer gadgets, crafting materials, funny knick-knacks, and even instant Ichiran ramen from Japan.

Once you’re done shopping (or while you’re shopping), you can also grab a cup of coffee or food from the Bean Brewers coffee kiosk in the store.

Unbox Greenhills is truly a must-visit if you’re in the Greenhills area and especially if you’re a collector. It’s probably the ultimate budol store for collectors and we wouldn’t blame you if just can’t walk out empty-handed.
