Globe introduces better voice call experience with VoLTE and VoWiFi

Globe has launched its Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) service along with Voice Over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) that aims to improve voice call experience for its customers. These services will initially be available in NCR and to selected customers starting May 14 onwards.

With the VoLTE technology in place, Globe customers, instead of relying on the older 3G to handle their calls, can now enjoy the advantages of a 4G LTE network. According to Globe, calls made over VoLTE are clearer because of high-definition voice quality, especially if both parties are on VoLTE.

VoLTE also allows for faster time to connect compared to the usual calls via 2G and 3G. The time it takes to set up a call is faster by one to five seconds, which can be vital during emergency situations. Another benefit of VoLTE is the simultaneous use of voice and data. As both can now run on the LTE network, multi-tasking becomes a breeze and sharing information from the web or apps while on a call is now made possible.

VoWiFi or Wi-Fi calling, on the other hand, extends network coverage in areas with poor signal quality allowing calls to be routed over Wi-Fi instead of a 2G/3G/LTE network, without the need for any app. Subscribers can use Wi-Fi calling to make and receive important calls as long as they have good Wi-Fi connection.

Similarly, overall voice call experience is better with Wi-Fi calling with customers also enjoying the benefits of high-definition quality calls and faster call connection time.

“The VoLTE service will allow us to maximize our LTE network resources providing our customers with seamless and better communication experience. We understand that the people’s need to be constantly connected have heightened, especially during this period of community quarantine and Globe is steadfast in its commitment to continuously improve our services,” Albert de Larrazabal, Globe Chief Commercial Officer said.

When making a VoLTE or a Wi-Fi call, customers’ mobile data will not be consumed. A subscriber only needs an LTE signal to make a VoLTE call while Wi-Fi calling only needs a Wi-Fi network. More importantly, no additional charges will be made on top of regular voice call rates or subscriptions when using the VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling.

VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling will initially be available to selected Globe Postpaid customers including business customers, with supported devices from Samsung, Huawei, and some Nokia models. VoWiFi, on the other hand, is available to Samsung mobile devices.

How the OPPO A77s keeps you posh and productive

This is a sponsored post by OPPO Philippines.

In recent years, we’ve seen more variety with smartphones than ever before. Whether you’re after design, performance, or a certain mix of features, there’s bound to be one that would suit your taste, lifestyle, or personality.

One of OPPO’s latest devices from its affordable A-series, the OPPO A77s, is an example of a smartphone that’s fit to be a daily driver while remaining stylish.

Its posh design renders it a viable fashion accessory but one that’s capable of getting you through your day. How? Here are a couple of ways how the OPPO A77s can level up your productivity while keeping things stylish.

Worth a second look

If you’re after a smartphone with a unique finish, the OPPO A77s has a little extra something that you may not notice at first.

Exclusive to the Sunset Orange colorway is the company’s self-developed fiberglass-leather back which not only looks good but also feels good.

That may sound odd considering we are describing a smartphone but the synthetic leather on the phone’s back lends a certain sophistication – and is something that’s quite uncommon, too, especially in its price range.

A subtler option would be the Starry Black colorway which offers the OPPO Glow design making it not as basic as driving away from your basic black smartphone.

The OPPO A77s is easy to slide in and out of your pocket or bag as well because of its 7.99mm thickness.

Style-forward but still very durable

At first glance, the OPPO A77s looks like a dainty little smartphone but the company assures long-term durability.

Both colorways of the OPPO A77s are wear-resistant and offer dust and water protection with IPX4 and IPX5 ratings, respectively. The Starry Black colorway also boasts being scratch-resistant.

OPPO says the A77s is constructed as if it had an “invisible raincoat” to help it combat wear and tear over the years. Aside from protection, the device also endured multiple durability tests including a 10cm drop test.

Additionally, the device’s volume button was able to withstand being pressed up to 150,000 times while its power button up to 500,000 times.

Expandable RAM for a power boost

At the heart of the OPPO A77s is a reliable Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor that’s able to provide smooth all-around performance while also being power efficient.

For its price, the A77s offers impressive all-around performance. Daily duties are done with ease and the most common social media and productivity apps work without a hitch.

The device is also able to offer a very comfortable gaming experience and is even able to run more intensive apps like Genshin Impact rather smoothly provided you opt for more moderate graphics settings.

Users can even expand the device’s RAM to 16GB through RAM expansion after system updates (8GB RAM + 8GB expansion). By borrowing from the phone’s 128GB internal storage, the OPPO A77s is able to increase its memory, boosting the phone’s performance when you need it most.

Binge-ready display and battery

At 6.56 inches, the OPPO A77s’ display is easily enjoyable when it’s time to put work away.

It comes with all the proper trimmings for a smartphone in its category including DCI-P3 color, eye care protection, and a 90Hz refresh rate.

While it does only support HD+ resolution, details remain clear and distinct enough for personal consumption. It’s paired with dual stereo speakers with Dirac 3.0 tuning that provides enough volume and clarity for solo sessions as well.

And if you prefer wired peripherals, the A77s still comes with a 3.5mm jack.

For uninterrupted watching or gaming, the A77s offers a 5000mAh battery capacity that should be large enough to get you through a season or two of your favorite show or a couple of hours of gaming, or maybe even both.

Once your phone taps out, OPPO’s 33W SUPERVOOC charging can bring it up to about 50% in just 30 minutes. Just enough time to whip up a snack and get back to binge-watching or gaming sessions.

Simple camera setup that goes a long way

On the OPPO A77s is a no-frills dual camera setup made up of a 50-megapixel shooter and a 2-megapixel depth camera. For selfies, we have an 8-megapixel camera found in the waterdrop notch up front.

While simple, the OPPO A77s’ camera setup makes taking snaps and selfies effortless. OPPO even offers an Extra HD mode that upscales an image, mimicking the quality and clarity of a 108-megapixel camera.

And being an OPPO device, you’re also getting some of its most-loved camera features including extensive beautification options, Bokeh Flare portrait, Selfie HDR, and more.

Final thoughts

There’s no doubt that performance is a key aspect people think about when choosing a smartphone. Luckily, we’ve got phones like the OPPO A77s that consider considers both form and function so you can keep up with your dailies and look good too.
