Premium industrial design

Featuring a familiar design that consumers have come to love, the new Huawei MatePad has a premium enclosure with narrow bezels, measuring just 7.9mm to achieve a massive screen-to-body ratio of 84 percent, making the most of the compact form factor to provide a large display area for users. The Micro-arc middle frame realizes an integrated shielding design that embeds the antennas and allows the middle frame to seamlessly connect with the back, which is available in an understated colorway – Midnight Grey. All these are fitted in an extremely lightweight body that weighs about 450g, perfect for users who are always on the move.

Immersive multimedia experiences

The new Huawei MatePad delivers Huawei’s signature FullView experience with a 10.4-inch 2K FullView display that supports a 2000×1200 resolution at 224PPI and 70.8 percent of the NTSC color gamut for bringing any multimedia content to life. Picture detail and dynamic range are boosted by the proprietary HUAWEI ClariVu Display Enhancement technology, which is a set of algorithms that optimize dark images and video scenes for image quality, color saturation, and sharpness. The display panel has also been certified by TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light, ensuring user eye fatigue is kept at a minimum over extended use.

Delivering an audio experience that rivals that of home theatre setups, HUAWEI MatePad supports Histen 6.0 to drive 3D stereo sound effects. Music and films sound more immersive than ever with the four high amplitude speakers, which feature an innovative design. The HUAWEI MatePad features various breakthroughs and innovations in Android audio system reconstruction and multi-channel signal chipset processing to deliver a home theatre-like cinematic audio experience. The sound by Harman Kardon reproduces even the most intricate sounds with impeccable clarity.

All-round performance

The new Huawei MatePad is powered by Kirin 810, a powerful and efficient AI chipset manufactured with 7nm process. Included in the chipset is a 2.27GHz octa-core CPU, comprising two A76 performance cores and six A55 efficiency cores. CPU resources are scheduled by AI, which allows the processor to dynamically respond to varying user demands. A customized Mali-G52 synergizes with GPU Turbo 3.0 to support improved graphics processing capability across everyday tasks and more demanding apps, such as games. The Kirin 810 also includes a Da Vinci NPU to handle AI processing and enable novel and sophisticated smart features that enrich the user experience. The Huawei MatePad also packs a massive 7250mAh battery and works in concert with Huawei’s software optimizations to provide an enduring battery life.

Smart interaction features

Running EMUI 10.1, the new Huawei tablet includes a variety of smart features that take full advantage of Huawei’s distributed technology to fundamentally change the way users interact with their devices. Multi-Window not only allows two apps to be open concurrently, but the apps can also interact with each other for maximum multi-tasking efficiency. Text messages can be replied to via Floating Window, which creates an overlay on top of the active app, enabling users to perform simple tasks without exiting the current activity. App Multiplier shows two instances of the same app through two independently operable windows. This comes in handy on text messaging apps, where users can have all their contacts shown on one window and an active conversation on the other.

Multi-screen Collaboration lets users connect their Huawei smartphone with the Huawei MatePad and seamlessly use two devices at once on a single display. After a simple and intuitive pairing process, files can be transferred by performing a drag-and-drop action. Peripherals and hardware capabilities are shared between the connected devices. For instance, the user can take advantage of the powerful quad-speaker system to play music files stored locally on the smartphone. Calls and text messages on the smartphone can also be responded through the tablet. At the end of each Multi-screen Collaboration session, all call records and text messages are purged from the tablet to ensure user privacy is protected.

EMUI 10.1 also features Huawei MeeTime, Huawei’s native chat functionality, supporting up to 1080p high-quality video calling between two Huawei devices.

Made for effective learning and entertainment

The Huawei MatePad is fully equipped to let users learn and have fun anytime, anywhere. Designed to facilitate a better video calling experience, the new Huawei MatePad includes a quad-microphone array supporting noise reducing and sound pickup within five meters. FollowCam is supported on the 8MP wide-angle front camera to track the moving subject and intelligently adjust the screen accordingly, while also supporting gesture control including Smart View, Spotlight mode and Camera Gestures. In addition, Huawei MatePad supports for smart keyboard and Huawei M-Pencil makes it easy for users to jot down notes and capture spontaneous inspirations.

To provide a more comfortable experience, the new Huawei MatePad features an Eye Comfort mode that further reduces the blue light emissions of the display, as well as eBook mode that informs the user when they are not using the device in optimal conditions.

Kids’ Corner on the new Huawei MatePad offers a safe and secure zone for children to learn and have fun with the tablet. Parental control options let parents easily manage the content and apps that are available to their children, as well as the time the children can spend on the device. To promote healthy device use the Kids Corner includes eye protection modes like blue light filter, posture alerts, bumpy road alerts, brightness alerts, distance alerts, and eBook mode to provide a more comfortable experience.

OPPO Reno11 Series 5G: What makes it The Portrait Expert?

In the dynamic world of mobile photography, the OPPO Reno11 Series 5G stands out as the latest star in the Philippines.

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Reno10 Series 5G, which impressed us with its snazzy in-sensor zoom, the OPPO Reno11 Series 5G comes even better prepared to take on the title of The Portrait Expert. These latest Reno devices are set to amp up the game of capturing memories. But just how do they do it? Is it all hardware? Software? Let’s find out.

Quick specs check

Both devices carry a similar number of megapixels – a 50-megapixel main, 32-megapixel telephoto portrait camera, and 8-megapixel ultra-wide. The differences lie in their main camera sensors.

On the Pro variant, you’re still getting the high-performing Sony IMX890 with its large 1/1.56-inch sensor.

The base variant, while identical to its predecessor in many ways, does get a significant upgrade to its main camera in the form of a new 1/1.95-inch Sony LYT600 sensor – the little brother of the Sony LYT-900 found on OPPO Find X7 Ultra and part of Sony’s latest batch of mobile camera sensors.

But all you really need to know is that both devices have larger sensors this time around which, by now, we know leads to better captures because of the increased amount of light it can take in.

The OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G boasts a new 32-megapixel Telephoto Portrait camera touting a slightly larger f/2 aperture. The in-camera sensor has also been upgraded to a Sony IMX709, an improvement from last year.

OPPO says that with this new sensor, the Reno11 Series 5G cameras offer a 60% increase in light intake and 35% less noise than traditional sensors.

Behind the scenes

On the software side, we’ve got some interesting things to talk about. This year, OPPO injects a refined version of its HyperTone Image Engine  – the same engine found on the OPPO Find X6 Pro and the Find N3 series.

As the company’s flagship algorithm,  the HyperTone Image Engine is exclusive to the Pro variant and significantly enhances overall photo quality touching on important aspects like clarity of details, dynamic range, and color vibrancy and richness.

After you take a photo, the Reno11 works hard behind the scenes to merge multiple uncompressed or RAW images to create detailed, well-exposed, balanced photos. In addition to that, the algorithm applies AI-powered denoise and demosaic processing for a cleaner, artifact-free photo.

This algorithm also helps in maintaining details and quality when shooting up to 5x zoom.

Additionally, OPPO also has its Portrait Expert Engine which was developed with input and insights from portrait photographers to further refine the shooting experience and solidify the series’ claim of being the Portrait Expert.

OPPO’s Portrait Expert Engine takes care of and enhances quintessential portrait elements with features such as Facial Recognition + Subject/Scene Separation and Skin Color and Facial Feature Protection that work together with the HyperTone Imaging Engine to produce professional-looking portraits.

All of OPPO’s mobile photography technologies are wrapped up in its improved Pro-Grade Portrait Mode.

With its telephoto lenses housing ideal focal lengths for portraits (24mm for the Pro, 26mm for the base) combined with wide adjustable apertures, you can achieve a very natural-looking defocused, and compressed background that can perfectly frame a face.

You’re also getting those familiar OPPO filters, AI Beautification, and more features to help flourish your creativity

Selfies aren’t an afterthought

Despite having a more sophisticated camera setup, OPPO still made sure to put a capable front-facing shooter on the Reno11 Series 5G devices.

In its hole-punch notch lives a 32-megapixel camera on both devices. Again, the difference lies in their sensors. The OPPO Reno11 Pro 5G houses a Sony IMX709 – same as its rear telephoto lens, while the Reno11 5G works with an OmniVision OV32C.

Final thoughts

OPPO’s Reno series has always been about producing beautiful portraits. And with the technology we have today, it’s now more powerful than ever at doing just that.

Combining high-quality hardware with finely- and specifically-tuned software, there’s no denying that Portrait Photography is its bread and butter but the whole camera remains versatile enough that you’re not limited to just portraits. Whether it’s capturing nature and its landscapes, food and its small details, or those delightful pet expressions, the new Reno11 series 5G devices are a photography partner worth considering.
